Boeing Uses ProModel to Gain Understanding of Production Process
4 May, 2009
Boeing, the largest aerospace company in the world is looking to ProModel to gain insights into their production process and model future improvements.
ProModel simulation suite is a flagship discrete-event simulation software, used for evaluating, planning or designing manufacturing, warehousing, logistics and other operational and strategic situations.
Recently Boeing Australia underwent training in simulation essentials using ProModel. The training provided familiarisation and competency in the art of simulation modelling. Boeing Australia is now working to model their existing and future production processes. Once completed, the simulation model is expected to provide a better understanding of the system, especially with regards to space allocation on the production floor. The model also provides a platform for performing 'what-if' experiments using simulation that predicts the detailed operation without requiring any capital expenditure. Multi-million dollar capital investments can therefore be made based on detailed and rigorous models that provide measurable results. This capability allows Boeing Australia to understand the system and make modifications in order to meet their production schedule as well as take on other improvement projects.
“Boeing Australia now models and analyses its manufacturing and assembly procedures using ProModel. With recent customised in-house training from Hearne Scientific Software, we can now use ProModel software more efficiently and in a more advanced manner. This means Boeing Australia can now produce sophisticated models of proposed production changes and find the optimal solution for lowering costs whilst improving efficiency and safety” – Roshan Khozouei, Industrial Engineer, Boeing Australia.
Boeing is the world’s leading aerospace company and the largest manufacturer of commercial jetliners and military aircraft combined. It has customers in more than 90 countries around the world and is one of the largest U.S. exporters in terms of sales. Boeing Australia designs and manufactures trailing edge control surfaces such as the flaps, ailerons and spoilers for the 787 Dreamliner. It has offices at Fishermans Bend in Melbourne and Bankstown in Sydney and is the major sole source supplier of aero-structure assemblies to the world aircraft industry, exporting its manufactured products to the USA, France, UK and Canada.
The Boeing company in the United States along with a wide range of other organisations, such as, the US Military and NASA, all use ProModel.
Hearne Scientific Software is the sole distributor and training provider for ProModel software in Australia and New Zealand. Hearne also provides consulting and advisory services to customers in Australia and New Zealand.
