MathType 6.0 for Macintosh
Introduction
MathType for Macintosh is a powerful interactive equation editor that lets you create mathematical notation for word processing, web pages, desktop publishing, presentations, and for TeX, LaTeX, and MathML documents.
MathType is a mature product that has been around for 20 years. Upgrading to the latest version of MathType ensures maximum compatibility with applications you use with MathType and with your computer's system software. If you already use MathType, it is important that you upgrade to the latest version in order to take advantage of these enhancements.
MathType 6 New Features:
Virtually all MathType features are enhanced in each major release. Here are some major new features in MathType 6.
- Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) Support: MathType now supports Mac OS X versions 10.3.9 or newer, including version 10.5 also known as Leopard.
- Intel Mac Support: MathType is now a Universal application (also known as a Universal Binary) which means that it runs fast on both Intel and PowerPC Macs.
- Microsoft Office 2008 Support: MathType is compatible with Office 2008 but not all features are available.
- Define Equations using TeX/LaTeX: If you already know the TeX typesetting language, you can enter equations quickly using MathType's TeX input mode. TeX editing can be mixed with point-and-click editing so you get the best of both worlds. You can also copy equations from existing TeX documents.
- Copy and Author Equations from Wikipedia: Wikipedia, the popular online encyclopedia, contains 1000s of pages with mathematical equations. Once you do your research on Wikipedia, you can copy relevant equations for use in your own work. You can also copy MathType equations into Wikipedia's page editor in order to create new pages or edit existing ones.
- Equation Browsing: The new equation browsing feature allows you to visit every equation and/or equation number and reference in your Word document or PowerPoint presentation.
- MathML Clipboard Support: MathType can now copy equations to the Windows clipboard using the new MathML Clipboard Format that is supported by a growing number of mathematical and scientific applications.
- New, Improved Online Help: We have combined MathType's user manual and help into a single comprehensive help system, featuring full text search and an extensive index, and works with Apple Help. It contains tutorials that teach you how to use MathType most efficiently as well as contextual help for its commands and dialogs.
MathType 6 equations are compatible with MathType 5 equations so you can continue to work with others even if they haven't upgraded yet. MathType 6 will also retain any changes you've made in your current version of MathType to keyboard shortcuts, toolbars, preferences, etc.
